ELAINE ROSE CAKE  

This beautiful cake is one of my late Mum’s recipes that I just adore to make. Not only does it boast the most delicious, earthy flavor, it’s really fun to make.  And I’m not a very successful baker, or, in fact, a lover of cake. It’s not your traditional beat and blend.  It involves soaking fruit in alcohol, boiling and cooling and an addition that makes it bubble up like a science experiment. But most of all, it reminds me of my sweet mother.  I bake it in an old round tin that she gave me to always use for this cake.  She called it a boiled fruit cake. I think Mum would be so happy if she knew I was still making this and thinking of her.  I think she knows. ♥ look for the recipe on my blog pages ♥

Heart cafe Portland ORWe went to Portland for the weekend and enjoyed so many great restaurants.  Our favorite coffee spot though was Heart.  Great coffee.  Worth a visit if you’re in Portland.

IMG_0206I’m loving wildflowers at the moment.  These are camomile flowers.  Who knew how pretty they were?  I thought they just made lovely tea.  Found these are Rolling HIlls Flower Mart in Manhattan Beach.

IMG_0307Since downsizing we don’t have our big backyard anymore.  But we still manage to grow lemons, limes and herbs all in pots.  Go ahead and grow something.  I do not have a green thumb but I love to have fresh herbs at my back door for weeks at a time.  Its just more satisfying to harvest your own. And my happiness maiden just makes me happy.

Yep somthin’ my sister threw together!  Looking for persian feta here in the states!!!! Wholefoods used to carry it. But they don’t anymore at my local. So I’m starting a movement. Order in persian feta! It’s so versatile and creamier than regular greek feta. Mixes well with avocado on toast or here it’s whipped and served with fennel salt. Devine!!!!!
